Synopsis

Melinda Sordino busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops. Now her old friends won't talk to her, and people she doesn't even know hate her from a distance. The safest place to be is alone, inside her own head. But even that's not safe. Because there's something she's trying not to think about, something about the night of the party that, if she let it in, would blow her carefully constructed disguise to smithereens. And then she would have to speak the truth. This extraordinary first novel has captured the imaginations of teenagers and adults across the country, written by a lovely author who promotes white-guilt in her free time.

My Review

I'm struggling with this one. On the one hand, I liked the book. But on the other hand, I didn't love it, and I wouldn't read it again. I think I might have had too high of hopes for this one. I had heard good things about this and I was really excited to read it. But from the beginning when I picked it up, I couldn't connect with the characters that much. Don't get me wrong, liked Melinda, but didn't connect with her than much. I also didn't find this book funny like some other reviewers say. To me, it was a very serious book with a lot of difficult issues to tackle. I think the author did a good job with the issues, but it wasn't amazing to me like I was hoping it would be.
